My poor little baby has been hit hard this year with the nasty viruses that are circulating.
Tuesday night Jadyn was up crying until 2:00 in the morning. I couldn't ascertain what was bothering her, but I did notice that she was digging at her ears a lot. I asked her if her ears hurt, but each time she would say no.
I read to her, played with her, rocked her, sang to her...but nothing seemed to comfort her enough to where she could sleep. Finally, her little body gave up the fight and succumbed to her fatigue. I decided that even though there was no fever or visible cause to her sporadic crying, I would take off work to make sure that I could get her to a Dr. the next morning.
I called the Dr. as soon as they opened and they told me to come in at 10:30. I told them that I suspected an ear infection. Once there, we discovered that she did, in fact, have a double ear infection, but the reason she was digging in her ears was because she also has swimmers ear...a condition where the ear canal swells shut. The Dr. also listened to her chest because I said she also had a bad cold/cough. The Dr. told me that Jadyn also had bronchitis, but that she wanted me to get an x-ray to make sure that it wasn't pneumonia.
I took her to the hospital to get her x-ray. After waiting for about 45 minutes (and entertaining Jadyn with candy), her name was called. We went into the radiology room where the technician proceeded to tell me that I needed to put Jadyn in a prehistoric torture device to ensure she got accurate shots of her chest. She warned me that it was terrible, but necessary.
As I fought back tears and held Jadyn's little arms up, she was strapped into this device...screaming the whole time. I knew that it wasn't hurting her, but it was scary, uncomfortable & cold. The technician really tried hard to be quick, but it still took a few minutes for her to set up the machine & get all of the shots. After a minute or 2, Jadyn tried to calm down enough so say, "Want out Mommy...please...want out Mommy." At this point, my heart was breaking and I couldn't hold the tears anymore. Soon after, she was done, and we rushed to unstrap her so I could hold her. The tech apologized for having to put her (us) through that, but I understood that is was the only way to get good shots.
We left the hospital, got a Happy Meal for my good girl, went home, ate, & took a (much needed) nap. At 4:30, her Dr. office called to let me know that she DID have pneumonia. She could stay home for another 3 days to see if her antibiotics would kick the pneumonia on their own. In 3 days, she needs to be rechecked, and if the pneumonia isn't looking better, she will need to be hospitalized.
Please pray for her speedy recovery....WITHOUT the need for hospitalization.
