Halloween 2008

Wow...what an exhausting (and fun) night.

We started the pumpkins on the 30th since I knew that 3 hours wouldn't be enough time to complete them if we started them when the kids came home from school on Halloween. Smart thinking. Not only did it take over an hour for the kids to "gut" the pumpkins, but the mess they made took an additional hour to clean. Try as I may, I could not get them to keep their pumpkin guts ON THE GARBAGE BAGS...and to make matters worse, Paige & Coleton decided it would be fun to fling their pumpkin guts at each other. Quel Gashis! (what a mess)

Every year I ask myself..."is this worth the mess and aggravation that it ensues...to have 3-4 freshly carved pumpkin decorations for a few hours on display?" I believe that I always answer...NO, it's not...but somehow every year I do it again. Maybe subconsciously I think it's more important for my kids to have these memories and traditions than for me to save myself another mess to clean. Though I hate the after math, I sure do enjoy their faces as they rip open the tops to their pumpkins and reach in feeling the slimy seeds, and this year I got to enjoy one more face as Jadyn experienced it for the first time.

This was Paige's pumpkin that she completed 100% on her own. All I did was cut the top off for her. I was very proud of the final result...and she was giddy when we lit it up!

This was Coleton's pumpkin. He did very well on his own , but needed a little help with the tricky areas. When it was done, we put it on the wall on the porch until I was done with mine...not thinking that we should put it our of Jadyn's reach. Before we even knew what had happened, Jadyn brought us a bunch of pumpkin pieces...and they turned out to be the Alien. Coleton immediately began to cry...but have no fear...Mommy is here. I did the best I could to put it back together with toothpicks. Considering the Alien was in 6 pieces, I think I fixed it pretty well!

This is the picture that Jadyn wanted for her pumpkin. I tried to let her help me carve it, but after about a minute, she lost interest.

This is the picture I chose for my pumpkin. Hey, I like to carve pumpkins too!

Coleton was a Bleeding Skeleton
Paige was Hannah Montana. I'm ashamed to say I made her blouse.
Jadyn was a Ballerina. I made her tutu.

This is Sarah, my neighbor's daughter & Jadyn's friend. She has MD. She was Little Red Riding Hood...the cutest one EVER!!

Dave & Kim also joined in on the fun...Dave was The Big Bad Wolf (who Jadyn was FREAKED out by) and Kim was the granny. They were all so adorable!!

Kim & Sarah again....

I was so surprised that Jadyn did so well. As soon as she realized after the 1st house that the purpose of this night was to get candy...there was no stopping her. She was on a mission!
